Armed Men Invade Ahmadu Bello University; kidnaps a staff and his family.

On Monday, 23rd of November armed men were reported to have attacked the Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Kaduna State.

They were reported to have abducted a member of staff of the uni and his family. The incidence took place in broad daylight at about 1pm in the afternoon.

Reports later had it that two family members were later released by the hoodlums during the aftermath of a shootout they had with the police.

A statement was later released by the public affairs director of the university, confirming that the incidence actually took place.

A full account of the incidence was recounted in the statement, indicating that about 12:50 am on monday, the armed men attacked the university and invaded the house of a member of staff located in the main campus on Sarduana crescent, samaru, Zaria. They abducted him along with his wife and his daughter.

The university security promptly informed the police intelligence response squad who then proceeded to the scene shortly after the distress call was received.

They met with the kidnappers and there was fierce exchange of fire between them.

The kidnappers were  almost overwhelmed by the police before they eventually conceded and ran headlong into the bush along their victims.

The police pursued them up to kasuwar village that shared a border with the university, the kidnappers eventually released the wife and daughter before finally escaping with the husband.

During the aftermath of the incident, the university vice chancellor urged the university community to remain calm and vigilant to avoid the reoccurrence of the incident.

It should not also be forgotten that earlier last week, students of the French department of the university were kidnapped while they were on a field trip to Lagos for a programme meant to hold at the French village in badagry.

They were kidnapped along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway by armed men who were later reported to have demanded   #30 million from the families of each of the students as ransom.

One student luckily escaped but he came back with a gunshot wound, the kidnappers later reduced the ransom fee to #1 million for the remaining 9 students before they were released.
